A Great Fall Day

What a wonderful morning. The sun shone. It was a crisp fall morning. Here where I live, we have beautiful fall days . After all the rain we had, everything sparkled. There is a little country road nearby which is still wooded and the leaves glistened and slightly moved with the breeze. The trees are still mostly green but the yellows and reds are making their appearances. It won't be long before everything is bare again.

Morning

I woke up this morning and it rained in sheets. When I returned home just now - it is noon - the sun wanted to come out. Did not make it. It is cloudy again. On the way home, two people walked their enormously big dogs. Some kind of buffalo breed on stilts. At the corner garden shop, a man measured a stone lion. I wondered where that would end up. Bedroom? Nothing will increase conjugal coziness like having a stone lion in your bedroom. Further up, was a flee market. A person in dog regalia including the head, wearing a trench coat, waived to everyone passing by. At least this dog did not flash. He or she should have carried a sign: Vote for Bush. That would have made this bizarre picture complete. We used to be so rural and the only exciting thing was a run away horse on occasion. That has changed long ago.

Decisions, Decisions...

I wondered where to go to lunch today. Go to the Italian horse dealer or to the Thai poppy seed vendor? I felt like eating a slice of pizza but it rained and the closest parking space was in front of the Thai poppy seed vendor. So the poppy seed vendor got the business. Next to me was someone who also sat by himself but did he ever come prepared! He came in carrying a little case - like a bible carrying case. Out came a DVD player and he watched a movie while he ate his food. Yes, he had his earphones plugged in! Next, however, came out two cell phones and he worked each of them at the same time, one with the right hand and one with the left. The movie was still running on the little DVD player. Ah, decisions, decisions. I ordered a cup of nice Thai coffee. He saw it come by and asked the waiter for the same thing.

It's Raining

I wish the sign on the right were true. We have something better than Freibier right now. We have rain, rain, rain. Around here people did not know any more what it looked like, felt like. Whole generations were born this year who, until today, did not know what rain was. There is a little creek not too far from here that floods the road pretty regularly when it rains. I always hold my breath when I have to cross that spot when it is flooded. Should I accelerate? Should I drive normally? I just don't know. So far I have always made it accross.

Trip to China

Mr. Finkelstein's bosses decided he should go to China. He went in the morning and came back late at night. The Chinese need shoes. Actually he did not go to sell them any shoes yet. He went to listen. What kind of shoes did they want? Boxed, flat, rounded, green, red with polka dots? Now the bosses will step into their empty warehouse and find two left shoes in black and will send those to China with the message:

After careful research this is what we designed for you! Aren't you lucky! You have shoes!

If the Chinese complain, Mr. Finkestein's bosses will be mightily ticked. The may even want the shoes back and then the Chinese will have no shoes. Mr. Finkelstein's bosses are charitable to the end of the world.

Sales Meeting

Mr. Finkelstein called for a Sales Meeting on Sunday. Juvenile sales have declined drastically. I am in charge of selling bottle openers to adults and seniors. The seniors are willing to buy but the adults are not. That is me on the right trying to think up a new sales gimmick. Give away toasters to sell a bottle opener? Today I worked on a flyer that will advertise all our holiday gifts in the neighborhood. Christmas makes or brakes the bottom line. Last night I went to a Holy Hour at the Church of the Crucified. It was very lovely. At the end we sang "How Great Thou Art" and I came apart. It is my favorite song and we sang it when my mother died a year ago.

Diocese of Westminster

I belong to the Diocese of Westminster. It's Catholic. Administratively they have descended from the apes.

Workshop and Bosses

The boss, Mr. Finkelstein, had a muscle building workshop for everyone today. It was very good. There are rumors that Mr. Finkelstein might leave. His boss is a jerk and the jerk's boss is new and can't be evaluated as of yet. Anyway, we would miss Mr. Finkelstein. He was surprised today that I kept a blog and I hope he does not find out where it is. I told him that he would not recognize himself on the blog. His name is not really Finkelstein. His name is Fenstermeister. Here I am thinking about in which way I need to stretch my muscles. That is me with the hat on.

A social with the Socialists

Rain

I walked the dogs this afternoon and I got wet! Strange feeling after so many months with no rain anywhere in site. Krebs was here this morning. It was hilarious. She and I look at the Bible very differently. We always have a good time. I like typology. She does not.

The stock market had a meltdown today. The anniversary date of the meltdown 20 years ago. I don't think there was a financial reason for the meltdown today. What goes down must go up. The Lord has blessed me. He knows what I need and provides amply.

Mass in the Suburbs

I went to Mass last night in the suburbs. An African priest was the main celebrant. I just heard that "Nemenn got savt." May be it was Yemen. Between the gospel and the homily it was gruesome. The accent was so heavy as to make it another language altogether. I went up to receive communion and saw some strange, wing tipped shoes showing from underneath the chasuble. Was it crocodile? Jesus went out the window by then. Went to my own church this morning. What a relief. We have lots and lots of young families. Came home and went to the Diner with the nun. Krebs was here on Friday. She found a great source concerning original sin in Psalm 51. My expert Bible professor back-up did not buy it but pointed to Roman 5. Yeah, yeah, but Psalm 51 is great. Krebs did a fantastic job again.
