How do you say it in French? Aha, merci

I went to a parish tonight and they had a visiting priest from Haiti. He did not speak a word of English. He blessed our throats in French. That should count double. I can only - and quite fluently - say in French: The doctors and the prostitutes survive every war. Obviously I could not say that to the visiting priest. The other sentence I can say in French is: Have you slept well? Could not ask him that either - right after Mass after all! So I said the only thing that was left in my vocabulary and that was: "Merci."
