My friend the nun
My friend the nun has a totally dysfunctional family. Recently her parents moved back from France-West because they got sick from the constant diet of olives, lobster and France-West wine. Her mother just had her 86th birthday. So everyone came yesterday to celebrate. Nephews and nieces, the people on drugs, formerly on drugs, the people who had once been in jail, the mistresses with the boyfriends, the live-in lovers, you name it - they were there - united, singing Happy Birthday Grandma. It reminded me of Jesus saying that he came for sinners. My friend the nun is there for all the sinners and it is lovely. Nobody gets excluded. I, continuous sinner, brought a coconut cake for grandma. It is her favorite. On the last turn on the way over it slid off the passenger seat and unto the floor. It did not slide off the plate and so we could recover it - but it was dented. A dysfunctional cake - very appropriate.
