The Hungry

I went to Canada today with a bunch of youth from our church and had them distribute various things that they had collected earlier. Four parents came along, too. The kids had a ball. One mother said to me she did not think she could do this all the time. Once we gave out socks the homeless crowded around us but I am used to it. New socks are a hot item for them to have. They are friendly and polite. Dealing with them face to face gives one a totally different picture than just running a collection drive and handing it over for someone else to distribute. Here the kids collected things and gave it out personally to the needy. We also had doughnuts, apples and oranges to give away. It was really a Christmas treat for them. They know my car. As soon as I pull up they start walking towards the car and wait for whatever we have to unload.
Service at the Basilica later - heaven on earth!
