The Weather
No sooner was I home from Adoration yesterday and finally settled in bed, reading, I got a call asking me if I could sub from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. I said yes before I had heard the whole story. Whole story was that this guy comes from a distance and he did not want to come up to the 7th Flag Church because he had heard it was supposed to snow. First time I heard myself that it could or would snow. Apparently he had called the "day captain" and the day captain who is responsible for the day told him to call me because I live close to the Adoration chapel. I told him I would go if it would not snow. Once I hung up I got angry. The day captain lives closer to the adoration chapel than I do and all these guys have trucks and fourwheelers and they have to call me to cover during a snow storm? I set my alarm for 12:30, looked out and it was snowing. Took a sleeping pill and went back to bed. Sure enough by 1:08 a female voice called me and wanted to know if I am coming in. NO! Told her that it was snowing and therefore I would not come. Hello? This Adoration chapel permits the Blessed Sacrament to be covered when noboby is there. If I were to drive into a ditch because of foul weather would Pastor Hummdinger over there come out and rescue me? If I were to call him in an emergency he likely would say: Let's shake hands after Mass on Sunday. My first duty now is to the temple and I'd be happy to help out at 7th Flag but for heavy lifting get your own people.
