The country
Yesterday I had lunch with somebody who immigrated from South America. I immigrated from Europe. It does not matter with whom I have lunch - native Americans excepted - we bewail the fact how Bush ruined the country with his war and tax policies. The nun blames our "malaise" on Obama and I keep telling her that there was no president, no president who could have fixed this mess after Bush. So who suffers the most here? The very young who are poor, the very old who are poor and the very sick who are poor. If I were to live in any European country, I would not have to pay college tuition, I would have health insurance and the lights would stay on during a snow storm. Poverty is a death sentence in this country.
