This morning I saw a friend from the Church of the Crucified. I set up on Tuesdays (only) and she sets up at her church whenever. I could see it in her eyes: YOU already worked yourself up to this important job? I also read this morning and gave the count. When you give the count you are basically running the whole parish. I re-assured her afterwards that I only do this on Tuesdays and she seemed to be visibly relieved.
She pulled me aside after Mass and told me that she heard that there were weird things going on in our church. Really? She pulled me to where the CDs are for sale and picked out Thomas Merton and said to me: "See! How can they even sell this stuff?" Thomas Merton according to her is almost the anti-Christ because of his interest into Easter Religions. Obviously, our church needs to be saved from these demonic influences. Then she pitched to me the fact that the position of Adult Education temple maiden was available in her cluster. There is no way I am going to switch parishes at this point. I told her it was quite refreshing not to have any position at this point and then walked out with the vacuum cleaner. With that I obviously negated the fact that I am not running the parish.
